The older the better!

I found this old book with a leather cover on Geordie Broon's second-hand market stall in the market (£1).  It must be at least 100 years old and falls to pieces when I open it,  I love it - who did it belong to and what tales could it tell if it could speak!  It's been so well used, stuck together with sellotape.  The title itself shows how old it is - "The British Empire Universities Modern English Dictionary".  I know Kindles are useful, but in my opinion there's nothing like a book, new or old!

  1. So lovely. I can almost smell the pages. They do have an aged smell don't they.

  3. Makes a wonderful backdrop. I love books too and parting with any of them always feels traumatic. We need a library

  5. I love old books, probably more than new books actually. If only those pages could talk!

  9. What a beautiful book, Julia. I love things that are worn, and which could tell such a story! I have 3 vintage leather cases from my parents and at one time I was going to restore them, but the more I look at them, the more I love their battered appearance and damaged handles! They will be used for storage, and in the process, are highly ornamental.

Thanks for your lovely comment. I think my poor old sewing machine is paying me back for neglecting it for so long! I do hope they are successful in repairing it. I am keen to get on with the next stage in my teabag experiments!
