Nearly Spring

At last we have clear blue skies after the wind and rain (but no snow) so we decided to take advantage of the good weather and go out to the hamlet of Alnham near the English-Scottish border.  We came across this memorial at the end of a one-track road over the hills surrounded by nothing but sheep and a few isolated farms.  Sad to think that these two shepherds died in the snow only half a mile away from the farm.

  1. That would be a very bleak place on a stormy day or night but it is beautiful and wild on a nice day. A sad memorial.

  2. So nice you have these beautiful blue skies! Getting out and enjoying new land is always a delight, isn't it? I love that big hillside/meadow on the top left.

  4. It looks rather barren in that area and yet fascinating.

  7. Thanks for your nice comment about Mum's birthday party - it was such a lovely day, and yes, it would have been perfect if Dad had been there too! He certainly would have enjoyed the food! Mum has asked me to make another pavlova soon - it's her favourite pudding too! (which is why I made it, of course!)

  8. How sad they died in such dreadful conditions and yet so lovely that the guys were remembered in that way.
