Pause

Just enjoyed the half term holiday with family and having some great days out in spite of the cold weather. Also enjoyed reading one of A A Gill's books and found a particular sentence struck a chord with me ' ... the most precious, elegant object in a free society - a quiet life of small joys'. I guess these images show some of the 'small joys'. Another shed one to add to the folder - a glimpse of the GCs plastic table and chairs stowed away until summer picnics in the garden. But still finding small joys in the winter!

Sizzling!

A barbeque in the Northumbrian hills was just what the doctor ordered with all the family in one place at the same time! This was the remains of the feast before clearing up and heading home. Hills, river, sun, food - lovely!

This was a rather fuzzy pic of some dandelions, taken on the Camera Club evening, but I decided to change it into a digital quilt, which is about the nearest I'll ever get to making a quilt like this!

Another big adventure

Today a few friends and I completed the last 10-mile leg of a prayer walk along the Northumbrian coast from Tynemouth to Berwick which we started a year ago. The weather was kind to us and we finished in sunshine on the bridge across the Tweed at Berwick.

The coastline is beautiful ...

... and the town of Berwick , which has changed hands 14 times I think between England and Scotland and has been the scene of much bloodshed, looked splendid in the afternoon sun. Difficult to believe that so much contention took place here.

All change

It's been a busy week since the last blog - lots of new things happening, like helping to get a new pink (pink!!) bedroom ready, taking part in a craft fair, joining a camera club and meeting new people. Today was a bit different too -

- not the usual sunday lunch (this one's for you Stu!), followed by a jaunt in the hills between Alnwick and Rothbury -

- followed by a quick visit to a garden centre -

How smart are these? Somehow they remind me of frogs ...

St. Mary's Island

A short walk from New Hartley takes you to St. Mary's Island which you can find in any book on Northumberland. The causeway is covered at high tide and many are the tales of unsuspecting visitors being caught out and having to spend about 6 hours waiting to get back. I used to go to school with a girl who lived on the island and she often rowed herself to and fro in a small boat.

It's a good place for bird watching - we came across several people with binoculars. ..... Now it's back to making a few Christmas stockings!
