Those trains again!

I make no excuse for taking photos in railway museums or preserved railways because I love the sense of storytelling these old steam engines and carriages tell. I think of the pride of the craftsmen and engineers as they made the huge engines and painted them with such care. I imagine the excitement of passengers as they took a journey for the first time and I think of the scores of volunteers often fighting a losing battle to restore and reclaim the magnificent pieces of engineering. That's why I like taking the pics (and I like rust too!)

  1. It was your pictures of rust that inspired me to take a picture of a slightly rusty hoe after I had dredged the pond to remove some pond weed. I am short of pictures for my blog this week, I will post it specially for you to see. :)

  2. Great pictures especially the buckets with the shadows. I love it when you can imagine what story can be told by something like an old train etc...

  5. Great pictures. I don't know what it is about trains but I love laying in bed at night hearing a train whistle in the distance. Sort of carries me away with it.

  6. No apology needed, these are great. Thanks for your kind comment - in the studio are photos, more of closeups really, similar to Elgol rocks. People (when they come!) seem to like them. It's a faff printing them myself so it's on the big list to get them printed properly, especially as Inchmore, for example, doesn't take digital prints (!?) Must look into that. It was a photo in my head when I saw it & it's a photo framed behind glass, not sure why the various processes should have different grades.

  7. These photos are fantastic...they made me think of the free video on Design Matters TV (all about using photos for art inspiration). Here's the link if you're interested.....
