I took this iPhone photo of sweet peas from the garden in a Virol jar. Anyone remember Virol? I can remember being given a spoonful a day sometime in the 1950s. It was a malt extract which tasted like a spoonful of melted toffee, obviously thought to be good for growing children. Also rose hip syrupy bought in small bottles. Anything I have missed out?!
What a gorgeous photo, Julia! And yes, I remember Virol - after all I am a child of the 50s lol! What a blast from the past! It was the most delicious stuff. It went with liberty bodices and rose hip syrup haha!!

we hardly ever get sweet peas here in Canada......sigh
ReplyDeleteJulia, this is just gorgeous, and one of my very favorites of yours.
ReplyDeleteEverything about it from the composition to the color is simply perfect.
Such an evocative picture
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment, Julia - yes, I think it's very important to remain positive! Keeping one's sense of humour is vital too - the only way to get through to the end of the chemo.

This is very pretty. I hope you keep blogging. I have lost a few blog friends to instagram. I get overwhelmed by all the beautiful photos there!
ReplyDeleteThis is pure art, beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely encouraging comment, Julia. Things are going as well as can be expected on the hospital front, and I am just glad that in the mornings I feel well enough to spend a few hours in the studio! My hubby said yesterday how much it pleased him to see me able to do things in there, and it is he who is making it possible because he's doing all the boring, necessary jobs, releasing me to use my limited energy resources for things that are fun and fulfilling for me. What a star. I'm busy with secret projects at the moment but all will be revealed after the middle of the month!

This is beautiful in the old vase, and I love the story about the malt flavored extract. In the US we had a thick gooey vitamin mix called Vi-dalyn that came in a brown bottle. Great old memories!
