Following the prompts

Sometimes getting motivated to set up a still life can take some time - that's one reason I find having a prompt or an idea to work on so useful.  These images are all in response to Kim Klassen's Bestill52 and The Studio prompts.  The image above was to find a sense of 'stillness' edited with Kim's LR preset - kk_eve.  The aquilegia was the only one showing its head in the garden so far.

The jar of buttons was for a prompt on 'one thing' - I did a series of photos based on sewing items.  The daisy clump (returned to the garden afterwards!) was for a Nature theme.  Both were photographed on a  mirror.
A small Greek bowl (a holiday present) came in handy for a  Studio theme.  Love being part of this supportive group!

  1. These are wonderful, Julia.
I think the one of the buttons is my favorite.
    Have a great weekend!

  2. I love them too and yes my favourite is also the buttons. I still have collections of buttons from my grandmothers and it is such a reminder of my heritage

  3. Love these, Julia, especially the reflections, and particularly the last one, where you have so cleverly picked out the colours of the pottery and emphasised them with the flowers. It's a beautiful grouping.

Thanks for your lovely comment! I am trying to keep positive about the next six months. I had a good pre-assessment appointment today for the insertion of the port-a-cath on Friday and feel more positive generally tonight. I've made another card for my hubby - for our 29th wedding anniversary on Sunday, and I feel very good about that too!

  6. Thank you for yet more wonderful encouragement from you, Julia! Your continuing prayers and blessings make such a difference! Our 29th wedding anniversary today was overshadowed by my feeling pretty poorly on day 3 after my first chemo treatment. Also, my stair lift has broken down, and it's the bank holiday weekend of course, so we won't be able to contact anybody till Tuesday and then it will probably be several days till anyone can come out and fix it. Grrrr. Not a good day!

  10. All these varied still-lives (lifes?) are so beautiful, Julia. Your work evokes a real sense of serenity. Have you ever thought of publishing an album of them? Any one of them deserves to be hung as well! Simply gorgeous.

Thank you for your uplifting and encouraging comment. I agree that I will think of Maria every time I see and use the quilt! It is an amazing gift. I have prayed that I will be a good witness to the Lord during my treatments and that I will be given the opportunity to bless people.

  11. Thank you for your lovely comment, Julia. After receiving my beautiful quilt I was challenged to do something myself to "put something back into the pot" as it were! It was such a fun project to do and brought me so much joy too, and also helped keep my mind off things. What you said about angels really touched me too - I have had so much about angels recently, and have decided that my next project will be to make chemo angels for my fellow chemo-ites!! I'm not putting myself under any pressure because I can't hope to do it in 3 weeks, and I'm much more severely affected by yesterday's treatment and will have to rest and recover for a while.

  16. Thanks for another lovely comment - we are so fortunate to live where we are, and our coastline is very beautiful, any time of the year. Glad you like my hair lol! I redid the ginger this a.m. and the other colours really need redoing as well as they're getting a bit faded! The trouble is, it's a lot of effort!! It's fun, though, and a sort of "up yours" to the chemo lol!

  17. Thanks Julia - yes, they are monitoring me closely. Yesterday's treatment wasn't too bad but again I felt the effects while it was still being infused. It's knocked me sideways again but not quite so badly as last time and I was actually able to get in the studio for an hour or two this a.m. before feeling too exhausted and shaky to continue, and feeling sick so I took some of the meds they gave me, and after a light lunch, felt a lot better. So hopefully I'll be better this 3 weeks. After the next one I'll be half way through!
