Found and loved
This is a pewter plate, actually a birthday present from HI. I found it in an antique shop and was told it was Cromwellian. (Cromwell - 1599-1658). It's battered and bruised and looks as if it might have spent time buried in the ground, but what do I know? it might be a good fake. Going to do some research. Anyway I didn't like to tell them I only wanted it for a photography prop but I must say I love it. See the little 'trap door' thingy at the top?- this must have been where you poured the hot water in to keep the food warm. Will take some more photos with it as you don't get the idea of the depth of the plate. Going to be busy ....

What a beautiful plate. I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, Julia! This is the best "find" ever!!! I really love it, and yes it is just perfect for a photo prop. My hubby knows that most of my purchases now are "photo props". Your butter and egg image is simply stunning!! You must print this one or submit to a magazine! Perfection!!
ReplyDeletewhat a fantastic buy and perfect for photography, so many magazine shots use pewter. Isn't it funny how we search out things for props! I love the teapot in your previous post too
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find, Julia!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful plate, Julia. I've seen many pewter plates like this, but never one with a trap door for hot water! Now that is a clever idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment. We've got one of those hoists in the back of our car for lifting the wheelchair, but it wouldn't manage my big buggy. My hubby has got it into the car twice, with the help of ramps, but it's an extremely hairy process and not something he wants to repeat in a hurry. The new buggy is super-lightweight and folds up, and there will be room for it in the car as well as the wheelchair so we'll have our options open.
