Still life with apple

Still trying to get the blog into gear and thought I would make the most of the sunlight coming into the south-facing window.  As you can see from the setup, I'm using black boards for a background and to block some of the light and although the camera is set up for a 'from above' shot, this one was taken with the camera on a cushion on the floor, using live view.  24-70 lens. The board was a length of wood picked up on the beach and cut into thirds which my willing assistant carried for me.  Guess who ...   I took some shots using the iron cobblers last and the small ornamental teapot which may get an airing later!

  1. Beautifully done and so neat to see how it was done. I love using barn board for still life photos but I haven't done a backdrop yet.

  2. This is gorgeous, Julia. I particularly like the black background which gives such a dramatic effect, and the low-level angle of the shot.

Thanks for your visit and your nice comment - Bridget says she drinks this every day to prevent colds as well as treating them, so you don't need to have a cold to drink it!! I had my first glass this evening but it wasn't very strong, so I probably need to let it steep a while longer. It was delicious, though.

Health wise I've been up and down (what's new...) - whole day feeling c**p on the recliner on Sat. Had a lot of hospital appts etc. recently, having further investigations and treatments for reflux which is hopefully more under control now although I'm still coughing. Otherwise not too bad! Thanks for asking.

  16. So nice to see how you did your setup. Thanks for sharing. I'm working on mine. Think I've ended up in the garage to shoot with the door open. I'm short on light elsewhere.

  17. This apple is one of my favorite shots with the dark background. I love the light gleaming on it, with the warm golden color. Love seeing your behind the scenes shots!!
