A friend gave me what I thought was a large thistle, but since the artichoke is a perennial thistle that's not surprising. What was a surprise was the inside of the head - I thought it would be like the inside of a poppy or a pineapple! Just shows you never know what something contains!
Superb! I wish I could grow them, sadly they seem to rot or get eaten, but I am trying again at the moment :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely images 2nd one is beautiful
ReplyDeleteMagnificent purple! Can you eat them?
ReplyDeleteWhat beauty you have for us today my friend, all I can say is -
ReplyDeleteHave had a blogging break for a while, but am now back and will be blogging more in the future.
Wow - what a beautiful purple - especially that 2nd one. I thought it was a thistle too until I saw your caption - I've never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you shared this as I've never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteWow! Stunning! Love the way you've set it off against the black background which really makes it look dramatic. I used to live in a cottage and had some of these growing at the end of the garden. They were gorgeous but they were always covered with ants and other creepy crawlies lol!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment, and thanks for missing me! I seem to have been away from Blogland for ages. Dad is getting a bit better, and things are moving on the housing front, hopefully! I'm a bit better generally, but rubbish after doing too much yesterday!

I have never seen one either! It's a lovely huge thistle.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your visit, Julia, and yes, it IS nice to be back at my desk! I've now finished the art journal page and uploaded a post, if you want to pop back and have a look - I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for you having your flu jabs, and hope it's not too uncomfortable, and hope there are no side effects!
I keep meaning to say how much I like your new blog background. It's stunning.
