Colour palette

Made my first colour palette and linking in with leavesnbloom photography. The hydrangea is left over from summer and has a sprinkling of frost. Cold night tonight - hoping that there will be a repeat of the aurora borealis which I missed last night. Off to find somewhere without too much light pollution.

  1. Thankyou so much for joining in with ColorMe Weekly today. I love hydrangeas especially at this time of year and isn't it amazing the actual colours there are in the dying flower even at this time of year.

I wish I was down in Northumberland tonight - I've only ever seen a little green hint of aurora borealis outside Dundee a few years ago and there was just too much light pollution to see any more. I'm married to an amateur astromoner so I'm always hearing complaints about the pollution.

  2. Beautiful shot of the frosted hydrangea. I have been watching for the northern lights too but haven't seen them yet! There are trees blocking our view and it's been too cold to go out in the dark to see if they are dancing. Such a sight!

  3. Hope your lucky Julia. I've seen it once from Lincolnshire in January about 17 years ago. It was amazing. DH has never seen it and would lovel to. Apparently there was a solar flare on Sunday so that may be causing it.

  9. Love your hydrangea and the colour palette - did you use a program to do this?
I do hope you managed to see the northern lights - what a sight they must be.

  10. We've yet to see the Northern Lights here - we don't have light pollution but we do have thick cloud cover and rain!
You mentioned the shop on the corner in Ullapool selling wool and carpets. Her lease was up , but she has moved next door to the post office in Ullapool. The shop is still called Strandlines, but she now sells very nice but very expensive linen and knitted day and evening wear.

  11. Great presentation. I was hoping you would have some photographs of the aurora borealis as I saw on the news today that Northumberland was a great place to see it!!. It is dull and wet here but we are forecast a sunny warmer afternoon so I will keep an eye out tonight, but I think we are too far South.

    Jackie in Surrey.

  12. That would be fun to learn to do. The hydrangea looks so pretty with its frosted petals.

In re: to your question - I live in a rural area that is surrounded by woods.

  13. Julia, what a lovely idea to make a colour palette from a photograph - and what a lovely photo too! Not sure how you do this. It would be a good exercise in really looking at things and analysing its component colours - good training in being observant!!

Thank you for your lovely comment on my blog - I felt quite a bit better yesterday, thank you, but absolute rubbish c**p today again... Hopefully better again tomorrow! I laughed at the rest of your comment - don't worry about it hun, just enjoy the results as they appear! I've been wrestling with the technology myself but it's finally falling into place!

  15. Lovely soft colors; I only have wind blasted sticks left on my hydrangea & that's in a sheltered spot!
