Squares continued

Having completed 28 squares I decided to put them in some sort of order to see what they looked like together. After this I decided to do something different with them but it's all part of the process! Have thoughts of couching gold cord down and putting them in vertical strips but it could all change. To be continued ...

Not a single border in sight!

I finally got round to getting my sewing machine in action again after buying a pdf pattern from
Jackie for an iphone case (No I don't have an iphone! Whatever gave you that idea!). I used a commercial batik fabric with a blue lining; the embellishment was a piece of foiled paper wih a voile spiral on top. There are a few mistakes but I'll regard this one as a practice run - an excuse to make another one! Pop over to Jackie's blog to see her lovely textiles, especially her brooches. (Secretly I did have a play with a new border ....)

Odds and ends

In between some great 60th birthday celebrations and meals for my sister I've had time to do a few odds and ends. The first is a book wrap made up of layered fabrics, machine sewn together with some acrylic stamping. The armband was an experiment, again layers of fabrics with wadding and string inside.




Sitting here in fromt of the computer I can see the bluetits flying in and out of our bird box - definitely some twitching going on!

New covers

I finally got round to finishing off a couple of sketchbook covers. The first one is using one of my favourite textiles - chocolate wrapping papers (come free with smell of choc!)


and the second one was a fabric I made earlier which became this book cover -



Many thanks to my lovely family for MD cards and pressies - I shall enjoy choosing something!

There's a lot of hair on the floor!

This past week has been very frustrating. Changing operating systems on the computer has meant I can't access jpeg pics on the harddrive so will have to wait for a solution unless I play about with memory sticks and things which I find difficult to do (I have a notebook full of little "how-tos").
In the meantime I've been working on a textile made by sandwiching voile snippets between water-soluble "Romeo", then free machining and finally using the soldering iron to make a holey pattern. At the moment I am adding some beads, but rapidly becoming bored! I want to get back to making digital designs .... Will let you know how I get on!

Fabric fling

In between playing with psp designs I've been returning to some of my favourite things, one being making a bag, this time for one of our small granddaughters.


Then with some of my Christmas money I bought some fabric (plain red and green) from Ikea, and a couple of remnants at John Lewis. The dotty red is PVC coated cotton which will give me chance to try out the walking foot on the sewing machine.


Next to reading (and smelling!) new books, having new fabrics to use is one of the small pleasures of life ....

Book covers

Although I thought this blog would be mainly about textiles it hasn't worked out that way as other interests keep poking their noses in! But I have made a few things this week, mainly book covers. Here are a couple of them -


The first one is made with "fabric paper" which was then quilted. The second has some embellished felt together with voile and foil, then burnt back, with a fme motif. The next one I made with chocolate wrappers (the smell was delicious! I get some strange looks when I swoop down on chocolate papers after someone has just eaten a choc! You have to be quick!)



Off to learn some more tips at the Camera Club tonight - another steep learning curve! but fun.

Have a heart!

A few hearts for hanging! These are for an upcoming craft fair. The black and white one is for a NU fan!

Change of hats

I exchanged my various hats for my crafty one in order to make two Christmas stockings for some special little people. The heart is to hang up somewhere! More are in the pipeline ...

Take one

Take one failed mono-print .....





...... and scan it, crop the best bit, play with it in PSP, print it out and transfer it to fabric, layer it up and sew using a motif from the original print = one mini-quilt!

WIP becomes WF

Inspired by this photo of part of a train, I transferred the image onto fabric after using an effect in PSP and stitched some of the outlines.



Now to do some more!

A couple of piccies of the embellisher. This make has 5 barbed needles which mesh the fleece/fabrics together; some makes have more needles. It certainly makes felting a lot easier - I found that making felt on the C and G course was always hard work, although some people enjoy the process. I'll be adding some stitching today using my sewing machine. Where has the sun gone?
